Singapore Airlines to Reduce Fuel Surcharge

Singapore Airlines will reduce fuel surcharges for tickets issued from today onward for travel on short and medium-haul flights, following a recent easing of jet fuel prices.

When the surcharges were introduced, Singapore Airlines committed to keeping their application under ongoing review, and to make adjustments in response to sustained changes in the price of jet fuel.

The following surcharges will apply for tickets purchased for travel on Singapore Airlines flights, on or after Tuesday 9 September 2008:

  • Between Singapore and cities in South East Asia (ASEAN countries): Reduce from USD40 to USD36 per sector

  • Between Singapore and cities in Europe and South Africa, as well as flights between North America and Hong Kong/ Seoul/ Tokyo/ Taipei/ Frankfurt/ Moscow: Remains at USD110 per sector

  • Between Singapore and cities in USA/Canada (based on a single-sector): Remains at USD180 per sector

  • All Other flights (flights between Singapore and cities in Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as flights between Dubai – Istanbul, Dubai – Moscow and Bangkok – Tokyo): Reduce from USD110 to USD100 per sector

There will be four tiers of surcharges, from the existing three, to differentiate between medium and longer-haul flights.

Collections from the fuel surcharges will still only give partial relief from the increased expenditure on jet fuel, which remain at historically high levels despite the recent correction.
