Qantas the national/International airline of Australia is on the verge of totally revamping its frequent flyer program. The plan may see Qantas adopt a similar program as Air Canada’s Aeroplan, which is an entirely separate company from its parent.
Rumours about the new Qantas frequent flyer program have been plenty in recent weeks and days, with some suggesting that Aeroplan will buy out the entire program, but Qantas has publically stated that this is not what they have planned for the new program, and that the Aeroplan style program is one the the options being considered.
More details are expected to be announced by Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon, on Thursday when he announces Qantas’s annual earnings.
The new entity is expected to also include a Jetstar loyalty program and should give frequent flyers more options.

As with most frequent flyer program restructures that I have witnessed have there have always been positives and negatives. I am sure this won’t be any different
For the Elite Frequent Flyers the program can only improve. From my experience with most frequent flyer program restructures worldwide its the less frequent flyers (1-10 return flights per year) that loose the most from a program restructuring. Its only early days, and its hard to comment without any formal announcement. |
