Airbus and
Singapore Airlines have agreed a delivery time table for the first Airbus A380
to be delivered and go into commercial production. The delivery schedule is as
follows:
- Monday 15 October 2007: Aircraft Handover Ceremony Toulouse France
- Days after handover/Delivery: Aircraft flown to Home airport
Singapore’s
Changi
- Thursday 25 October 2007: First Commercial Flight SQ380 Singapore to Sydney
- Friday 26 October 2007: Return flight Sydney
to Singapore
If you want
to be part of this history making first commercial flight of the Airbus A380,
you can, Singapore Airlines are auctioning via eBay the majority of this
flights seats with 100% of the proceeds going to the following charities:
- One-third to Singapore’s
Community Chest
- One-third split between the
Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick and
the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Both in Sydney.
- One-third to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without borders)
Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chew Choon
Seng, said the delivery would Mark the
beginning of a new chapter for the aviation industry.
“Everyone at Singapore Airlines is keenly
anticipating the delivery of this new plane, and our people are working hard on
final preparation for its entry into service. The first flight promises to be
one of the most exciting occasions in aviation history.
“We are overwhelmed by the support of the community – from
all over the world – for the charity auction. And I would like to thank the
many partners and service providers that have followed the lead of our fuel
supplier, ExxonMobil, and eBay, in donating their services for the First
Flight’s charitable causes.
“While occasions like this are few and far between, we hope this enthusiasm
generates support for very worthwhile causes,” Mr Chew said

Any and every Airline and
Airplane buff will want to be on this flight, but I am sure demand will
outstrip supply of seats and the cost of a seat will go sky high, which is a
good thing, as the money is going to charity. I think I will try my luck in the
auction, but I don’t like my chances.
