Skytrax the UK Based aviation research agency, have just released winners
in the 2008 Skytrax World Airline Awards,
and unsurprisingly the top Airline has award has been taken out by Singapore
Airlines, in part to their new Airbus A380 and evolutionary cabin across all
classes. What is very interesting is the lack of either a US or European carrier in the top 10.
The top 10 list comprises entirely of airlines
in the Asia/Oceania region, which is great for
those of us that live and fly within this area of the world, and not so good
for the rest.
We are not
entirely surprised by the lack of a US carrier in the top 10 just look back at
my post earlier in the year titled US
Airline Carriers Wake up and smell the? In which I did not have much good to
say about the majority of US carriers. I am however surprised not to see any
European airlines in the top 10 list, expecting either British Airways, or
Virgin Atlantic to sneak in, then again it’s a very competitive top 10, and the
differences in quality of airlines between number 5 and 15 may only be slight.
