    Hi Florencia,

Welcome to the Business Travel Guru Forums

I am not sure why Singapore Airlines Frequent Flyer program is called KrisFlyer, but I suspect it has some relation to the Kris which was/is a sacred weapon in this region of south east asia (Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, etc)

    Regards

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

You are correct.  I worked with SQ during the development and initial marketing of the program.  SQ has significant brand equity in the word "Kris" (KrisWorld inflight magazine, Silver Kris lounges, etc), so it was natural to combine Kris with Flyer for the FF program.

    Thanks for the Info

I thought this to be the case as I could not find any other reference to Kris.

Re: Welcome to the KrisFlyer Frequent Flyer Forum - ask your questions

Dear Ben I am new to this website so hopefully I am in the right spot.

I wish to redeem seats for travel during Christmas on SIA KrisFlyer.  However, they have only released up to 1 Jan 09 at the moment and I want to come back around 8 Jan.  There are seats (going out) available on Christmas eve at the moment.  My fear is that if I wait for the (coming back) seats on 8 Jan to be released, the 24 Dec seats will be gone by then.

    Therefore, my plan is:

Book confirmed (outgoing) seats on 24 Dec

Book confirmed (incoming) seats on 31 Dec (or alternatively waitlist (incoming) seats for 1 Jan)

As soon as the 8 Jan seats are released, I will change the dates for the incoming seats.

What I am confused is that I read on SIA's website that there is no penalty to change dates as long as tickets are unused but when I rang customer service, they say u can only change the dates ONCE (this is inconsistent with the terms and conditions on the website).  Customer service urged me to wait until the seats I want are released before I do anything.

What would you do? I really appreciate your advice.

     Regards

    Monica

Re: Welcome to the KrisFlyer Frequent Flyer Forum - ask your questions

    Hi Monica,

Welcome to the Business Travel Guru forums,

It’s a bit risky, yet it’s something I have done before, and have been successful, just remember Singapore Airlines release award seats 353 days in advance, so check availability 353 days before your the 8th of January flight, I personally check every day. You also have a year to secure those seats.

Considering the time of the year you are flying, there may be some risk, if you have plenty of miles I would recommend doing two single award bookings (Obviously there is slight overhead in regard to required miles to take this option)

Dear Ben Thanks so much for your tips. If only I had lots of points! Alas no. However, I am taking your suggestion and checking seats every day.  There  is only 2 more days before the dates I want open up so I am waiting until then to book. So far the seats for the departing date are still available although I have noticed something rather curious.  Sometimes when I check the departing dates seats, the flights I want are shown as available for waitlists only but when I re-check the same dates again later these flights comes up as available!  Any idea why?
